Atmospheric Plasma Threads

Using a solid state microwave generator, we are able to create a compact, and focused atmospheric plasma. In this picture we are using a small flow of Argon to ignite the plasma, and the colors that are visible are different elements in the room air being ionized. This small (and safe!) source is meant for selective area treatments, trace element analysis, and sterilization of biomedical components. This is the smallest of several similar source designs, as the same principle can scale to larger plasma confinement tubes and power generators.
